Lunch & Learn Educational Seminars

The Premarc Corporation would like to extend an invitation to review and update your design and field staff on the latest developments in concrete pipe installation and design, manhole construction and general pipe installation. Premarc presents a series of seminars at a time and location that is convenient to you and your staff.

These seminars are typically presented during the lunch period at your facility with Premarc providing lunch for you and your staff. However, if a morning, afternoon or an evening session is more convenient, we will be happy to accommodate you.

The following is a brief description of each of the seminars that we present. Each seminar typically lasts an hour.

Concrete Pipe Loads and Supporting Strengths

The presentation offers a basic discussion of theories and practices used in determining the loads and supporting strengths of concrete pipe. The seminar includes parameters for concrete pipe installation and comments about the latest research. There is also an open discussion on practical aspects of buried pipe, effects on hydraulics, strength and durability.

Concrete Pipe Installation and Inspection

This seminar begins with a short sequence on the different methods of concrete pipe manufacturing and an explanation of the types of bedding and their effect on the load capacity of the pipe. Different soil conditions and their effects on bedding support are also explored. The seminar continues with a discussion of trench widths, construction loads, jointing of pipe, drainage structures, line and grade control and jacking of concrete pipe.

Included in the seminar is a discussion on inspection of concrete pipe and installation. This portion of the presentation involves In Plant testing, field inspection, field testing, safety and quality control.

Rigid and Flexible Pipe Design and Installation Parameters*

This seminar explains the two different pipe products and their installation. This is not a discussion on the relative merits of the products, but an objective presentation of design and installation parameters. The presentation explains how the designer's requirements are met depending on the products used within the installation and what role the contractor plays insuring that the design expectations are met.

The seminar goes on to discuss rigid pipe theory, flexible pipe theory, soil pipe interaction, installation characteristics, and quality assurance. The presentation wraps up with an open discussion on the practical aspects of buried pipe, hydraulics, strength, and durability.

*Note... The Loads and Supporting Strengths and Rigid/Flexible seminars are more effective if they are held in either one 2 hour session or two 1 hour concurrent sessions, no more than a week to ten days apart.

Manhole Presentation

The presentation discusses the pre-cast manhole and how it fits into the storm and sanitary sewer system. The discussion includes design and structural aspects, joint design, flexible connections, attachments, and design problems and solutions. The final discussion covers design problems and their solutions before they become a field problem.

Total Precast Culvert Systems

This presentation is to demonstrate the installation of total precast box culvert systems. While precast box culverts are not new, the latest innovations of precast footings, head walls, and wing walls demonstrate a new versality to a proven product.

The use of a total precast system speeds the installation of the drainage structure and gets the roadway back in service much faster. The contractor can use his own crews for the complete installation without having to sub-contract the concrete work.

The discussion concludes with an explanation of jobsite condition variables and the design assistance offered by Premarc engineers.
